*******REGISTRATION FOR FALL 2010 IN JUNE*******

PLEASE NOTE THAT REGISTRATION FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.  WE DO NOT YET KNOW PRACTICE TIMES AND DATES FOR THE FALL SEASON (WON'T NECESSARILY BE THE SAME AS CURRENT TIMES).   WE WILL NOT REFUND FEES AFTER THE SCHEDULE IS RELEASED.

The Summit Soccer Club offers an Under-8 program commonly known as the U8 Academy for second graders who reside in Summit and were born between 8/1/02 and 7/31/03**.  Children born after 7/31/03 but who are in second grade are also eligible.  The program consists of a one-hour weekday instructional session, led by professional trainers, and a one-hour weekend game session combining instruction by trainers and games. Summit Soccer Club does not offer a travel soccer program for second graders (U8).

The Academy is designed to teach soccer techniques to children under 8 while they have fun playing the game.  Players are divided into teams of anywhere between 12 to 14 players of the same gender.  At the beginning of the program, games are played in a 4 versus 4 format aimed at giving each child more opportunities to “touch” the ball and play a bigger role in a game.  This “small sided” concept reflects the latest and most effective approach to developing young soccer players.  Decreasing the number of children on the field increases the number of times that your child touches the ball during a game and has been shown to dramatically improve a child’s physical skills such as trapping, passing, kicking and endurance, as well as mental skills, such as concentration and decision-making.

The number of players on each side gradually increases during the Spring session to allow the kids to become accustomed to the larger format which they will be playing in if they choose to play travel soccer the following year.  No try-outs are required to participate in the Academy.

Parents serve as coaches and team managers during the season and you are asked during registration if you are willing to volunteer to coach or serve as a team manager.  Parent coaches are not asked to attend practice during the week and are not required to obtain a coaching license.  In addition, the time commitment relative to other sports you may have volunteered for in the past is relatively small so please consider volunteering.   No knowledge of soccer is necessary

Please note that registration for the program is non-refundable and we cannot guarantee practice days or times for anyone.   The practice schedule for the Academy teams will not be finalized until mid-August and no guarantees can be made regarding the schedule.   In addition, Academy games will be played every Sunday and will last one hour.

For additional questions and to volunteer to coach or serve as a team manager, please email Mario Ramos
